History

Our Story

What began in 1963 as a small credit union created by local school employees has grown into a thriving community financial institution dedicated to serving generations of members across Allen and Auglaize Counties.

At TopMark Federal Credit Union, our history is built on people helping people — a philosophy that still guides us today.

Humble Beginnings

On February 15, 1963, a group of dedicated educators gathered at Lima Senior High School to form the Lima Public School Employees Federal Credit Union. Their vision was simple: create a financial cooperative focused on supporting school employees and their families.

By the end of our very first year, we proudly served 142 members with assets totaling $4,483.

Growing With Our Community

As our membership and services expanded, so did our identity.

In 1967, we became Limalco Schools Federal Credit Union, with “Limalco” representing Lima and Allen County. Over the years, we continued to grow, adding locations, welcoming new members, and strengthening our commitment to the communities we serve.

Key milestones along the way included:

  • 1990 – Relocated to our Main Street office in Lima as assets approached $3 million.
  • 1996 – Merged with Westinghouse EFCU, opening our first branch location.
  • 2005 – Transitioned from a school-based credit union to a community charter, allowing us to serve Allen and Auglaize Counties.
  • 2005 – Officially became TopMark Federal Credit Union, a name inspired by our educational roots and the pursuit of excellence.
  • 2013 – Welcomed members of Lima, OH, Employees Postal Credit Union through a merger.
  • 2017–2019 – Expanded our footprint with locations in Cridersville and Lima.
  • 2018 – Merged with Beacon Mutual Federal Credit Union, adding nearly 1,900 members and strengthening our ability to serve the community.
  • 2021 – Moved our Main Office to our current West Street location after more than 30 years on Main Street.

Built on Service. Focused on the Future.

From a small office serving educators to a growing community credit union, TopMark has remained committed to the same core values that inspired our founders more than 60 years ago: service, trust, and community.

Today, we are proud to continue helping our members achieve their financial goals while staying true to the cooperative spirit that started it all.

And while much has changed since 1963, one thing never will — our commitment to putting members first.
